The start of the DofE journey. We prepare and train your pupils during the day before embarking on a two day practice expedition. It is usually best if there is a time to reflect, recover and prepare for the final two day qualifying expedition later in the season. However, it would be possible to combine all five days in one week if necessary.

Typically we use a location that is near to your school that offers a series of foot paths that are safe to use and a camp site suitable for the number of pupils.
On the training day we cover the following topics:
- The DofE 20 conditions
- The Countryside Code
- First Aid
- Group work with expedition aims and objectives
- Map reading and planning
- What to bring and packing a ruck sack
- Food to bring and sample menus
- Cooking with a Trangia stove
- How to put up a tent
Our 5 day package consists of 1 day school based training, 2 day practice expedition (includes overnight camp) and 2 day final qualifying expedition with overnight camp. Alternatively, we can do a four day or three day package to meet the DofE requirements. However, it has to be said that the traditional five day package is still the best!
Usually we supply the tents, stoves, fuel, maps, compasses, with tea and cake for staff.
We also provide a number of other options depending on the level of support given by the school, either with their in-house expertise or kit the school may supply. Please do enquire for more details.
