Gold DofE expeditions abroad

Having run a huge number of successful Gold DofE expeditions abroad over the last 20 years, we are delighted to be able to offer the options below for you to consider. As each trip is bespoke to your group, we can easily adjust the length of the trip according to what the cohort (or you!) want. Please do contact us if you are interested in developing one of these ideas further.

These are some of the locations that we currently offer for Gold DofE abroad because they fit the DofE conditions/ requirements very well. We have also run a number of expeditions to other areas in the world such as the Italy, France, Nepal, India, Kenya, Tanzania and the USA; expeditions to these countries can also usually be shaped to fit the DofE aims and conditions too:

Albania, Accursed Mountains: we travel through stunning un-spoilt and remote areas of the Dinaric Alps in the north of Albania and Montenegro and trek through the foothills of Jezerca, taking in glacier lakes, stunning panoramas and possibly the Peja Pass. All around you are rustic farm buildings, alpine flora and historical villages.

Evening views in Albania

Iceland Landmannalaugar: the land of fire and Ice. This trip takes you over hissing geothermal heated pools, and you see land being created as the main tectonic plates pull apart. There are campsites with hot, natural bath temperature heated pools to swim in. We will see the remains of where the volcano, Eyjafjallajökull, erupted in 2010.

Morocco Atlas Mountains: Having arrived in Marrakesh, often we use Imlil as our base camp about one hour to the south. We trek amongst the Berber tribes on good paths, and have the option of a flatter plateau type trek or more mountainous routes around Toubkal. There is spectacular, varied scenery every day, with a stopover in Marrakesh at the end of the expedition, or why not head down to the coast and spend a few days surfing at Taghazout before flying home.

Norway Jotunheimen and Hardangervidda: the land of giants. This expedition suits those who want to get off the beaten track. You can explore valleys, see glaciers and have the option of looking down a vertical mile to a fjord below! This area has been described as ‘Scotland on Steroids’, and with its dramatic scenery and Scandanavian culture it truly is an expedition with a difference.

Spain Picos de Europa: located a short drive from the city of Santander, the Picos de Europa National Park is simply stunning. Potes, a traditional market town, is the gateway to the national park and its campsites provide a great base for Gold DofE expeditions.
